Alice Bridge, Marple Hall cook - her collection of recipes
Description
An account of the resource
A selection of 14 handwritten recipes which belonged to Alice Bridge, cook to the Isherwoods at Marple Hall. Two are written on Marple Hall headed notepaper, another on the back of an unused invoice belonging to her husband, Harry Bridge, sanitary engineer of 23 Church Lane, Marple. The recipes include coquilles of fish. simnel cake, damson wine, rhubarb jam and rice pudding. On the back of one is written "Don't lose these, they are 200 years old or more and I have won prizes with them".
Leaflet - 'Favourite recipes of Hawk Green mothers and their friends' Among these is 'Courting Cake'
Copy of Mrs Beeton's Cook Book 1899- stored on book shelf in Archive Collection.
Two photographs of servants at Marple Hall and other local scenes.

Five pages of correspondence and photocopy of coat of arms found painted on stone recovered from demolition rubble of Marple Hall.
Correspondence between the Heraldry Society and Arundel Castle Trustees Limited, Librarian to the Duke of Norfolk investigating its origin. 1992 & 1993.
Conclusion was that the painting was a mystery as there are inaccuracies that bear no connection to local families.

An account of the resource
Bound photocopy of data given by Christopher Isherwood to Marple Antiquarian Society late 1970.<br />This is a handwritten scrap book written by Mrs F Bradshaw (Kathleen) for her son Christopher circa 1907 and contains:-<br />(a) the Bradshaw Isherwood family tree with information about some of its members and details of Marple Hall<br />(b) a description of the life of John Bradshawe, Lord President of the court which condemned King Charles I<br />(c) extract copied from the diary of Revd Charles Bellairs<br />(d) "Journey to London from Marple 1831" copied from a copy of the diary kept by Anne Maria Bradshaw Isherwood<br />(e) hand drawn illustrations of rooms, pictures and floor plan at Wyberslegh Hall <br />(f) some photocopies of printed pages from "Original correspondence of the Lord President Bradshaw" by A Craig Gibson
