Material on Marple Cattle Market.
A Smithfield cattle market opposite Marple Station on Brabyns Brow was opened in 1909 and closed in the 1960s. On market days the public houses in Marple Bridge were open all day!

Text: This fine old cow is the property of our esteemed customer, Mr. W. Davenport, Ernocroft Farm, Ludworth. She is 20 years old, is seen here with her 17th calf, and is in calf again for February 1935. In most of her lactations she has given up 6 gallons per day.
