Ordained priest by Bishop of Chester 1758 : Licenced to Disley Chapel as Assistant Curate; 1760 Master of Disley School and curate of Marple; resigned from Marple curacy 1761. Separated from his wife, settling annuity on her.
Thereafter held posts in Derby, Liverpool and Essex before moving to Maryland in USA where he bought extensive estates (with financial assistance from housekeepers) and established an academy.
Booth was one of few Anglican clergy allowed to exercise his ministry during the Revolution and attracted sons of a large number of revolutionaries to his Academy.
