Description

Two photocopied newspaper cuttings reporting on the fire at Aqueduct Mill, Marple.
4 Aug 1934 : "Mysterious blaze at Marple mill" describing the outbreak of the fire in a pile of cloth at about 9.30pm. Within 15 minutes two engines arrived and a tendder from Stockport Fire Brigade. By midnight the fire was over but there were burnt out buildings, wrecked machinery and hundreds of thousands of yards of burnt and damaged cloth. - North Cheshire Herald.
27 July 1934 : "Fire at Marple printworks. Workmen's hurried escape from burning building" reporting on the escape of thirty men on the night shift from the second fire within five weeks, the first having caused the old part of the works to be completely destroyed. The second fire damage was estimated at thousands of pounds. - Manchester Guardian.
