1827 : The corner stone of the new National school was laid by Mr J Ernill, the Master
1837 : The National school is to be supported by the Independent Order of Oddfellows
1859 : An examination was held of Hawk Green Infant school when 60 children gave answers to 603 questions in bible history, catechism, grammar and arithmetic
1865 : Marple Hall, Establishment for young ladies, conducted by the Misses King
1908 : The Medical Officer for Health recommended that the Day Schools should be disinfected
1970 : Centenary of State Education 1870-1970. Historic displays in local schools
1979 : "When farm hayloft became a school - peeps into the past". In 1831 the hayloft at Chapel House Farm was cleared to become the first National school in Marple.
