Two page article showing a photograph of the Regent Cinema, Marple in 1986, from unknown publication under the headline "Marple" giving a brief history of The Regent Cinema.
Includes mention of first Marple film hall in 1911 at Shepley Hall ( now Conservative Club) on Church Lane, which moved in 1915 to premises in Church Lane, named The Gem. At the advent of "the talkies" and with the danger of the cinematographic licence being withdrawn, film shows stopped there in 1931.
Article details that thereafter the Union Rooms and adjoining houses were converted to the Marple Regent, which continues to flourish today under stewardship of Lillis father and son after overcoming threat of Compulsory Purchase Order in 1969.
