Partial photocopy of draft of Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) 1969 of Regent Cinema, Marple.
Photocopies of correspondence( 5 May 1969 and 18 Jun 1969) from Marple Urban District Council 1969 with reference to the Compulsory Purchase Order to be issued.
Grounds for CPO were:
closure of cinema had deprived Marple of a main form of enteretainment;
Council's desire not to lose asset of this town centre building but use as permanent civic premises for meetings and events of local organisations;
draft central area redevelopment proposals will require alternative accommodation for amateur theatre to be provided.
CPO withdrawn after agreement with owner who withdrew his appeal against planning refusal for change of use to Bingo Hall.
Photocopied extract of minutes from Estates and Building Committee date stamped 8 Jul 1969 confirming that CPO would be revoked.
