Details given of Compstall Mill machinery, employees, work in hand (very little), rates of pay, also of the mill's failure in 1847. Other information about Andrew's Woodford calico printing establishment.

Written to highlight exhibition staged by Marple Antiquarian Society at Etherow Country Park relating story of Compstall Mill and village and their development under the Andrews family for over 80 years.
