Description

Six typed pages with notes from various sources, mainly letters from later generations, on local people. Details given about :

 Belfield : Forebear had been a stonemason at Mellor, sister farmed at Damsteads and later Dove Bank, great uncle worked as overseer at Hollins Mill, another great uncle emigrated to farm successfully in California and during World War 2 sent sweets, chocolate,etc back to family in UK;
Chapman/Heath : reminiscences of Mellor School 1900-1907,eg. children walked home for lunches and older boys were let out early to collect hot dinner to take to fathers working on farms, as well as collect hot dinner from headmaster from his house in Gibb Lane; caning a common punishment. Also memories from 1927 - 32, eg lessons on 3 Rs, scripture classes, tables, knitting, PE, playtime games.
 Griffiths : grandmother lived in Mellor, great uncle - previously in charge of motor boat on Roman Lake - killed in WW1;
Hambletons -memories in letter from 1949: writer's grandfather had bobbin mill in Glossop, father started farming in Newtown and family finally emigrated to Canada; : Shepperd :spent time in USA but returned to Marple 18802 to open grocer's shop
Slack : emigrated to New Zealand where he owned several shops in Papakiera;
Stevenson : Married  in Mellor 1821;
Stewart: father moved from Compstall  to America early 1900s  and worked in Worsted Millthere:
Mr J T Pott :nephew of Bull's Head owner who went to Australia 1905 to become foreman of joinery firm.
